Character information
Name: MacKenzie “Kenzi” Malikov
Age: 23
Date of Birth: September 15th, 1991
Canon: Lost Girl
Species: Witch
I would like to AU Kenzi into a witch, because of how well she took to becoming Fae in her original canon. In Lost Girl canon, Kenzi often feels weak and useless compared to her friends and I would like to explore a less helpless version of her.

Role: Circle Midnight level 1 witch - soon to be level 2. Sells magical contraband and scams people out of money via cons.
Rank: 1-2
Background: Kenzi Malikov was born into a family of Russian witches in Canada. She learned how to do some light slight of hand and other innocent magic tricks from her father, who passed away shortly after she turned eight. Her mother remarried and the ensuing years were so terrible, that Kenzi ran away and lived on the streets for years among gaggles of runaways both supernatural and human. Being integrated in the criminal element at a young age allowed Kenzi to learn how to grift and steal more than just people's wallets.

She moved around for years after getting back on her feet at 20 and began a relationship with an older - married - man who she at least seemed to fall in love with. After being told that he would leave his wife for her, Kenzi gladly went to London with him.

He didn't leave his wife. And Kenzi made sure his computer played porn as loud as possible at his work.

She reinvented herself and joined the Circle Midnight to improve her magic. From there, she made friends and some enemies and is now attempting to cut a corner of the black market out for herself. She recently ended a relationship with a human being who was a talented musician by the name of Nate Russel, because he was being approached by a fae that told him they could get him a record deal in exchange for his life years down the road. Kenzi wanted to protect him and thus - ended the relationship to cut his ties with the fae.

Personality:

Kenzi is a ball of energy wrapped in an enigma, shrouded in mystery and topped off with vodka. Really, very little is known about Kenzi save for what she tells people and even that is left up to debate. While she doesn’t reveal a lot about her past, Kenzi is openly a bright and excitable person. She enjoys having fun with friends, going out for parties and generally just being happy. She does what pleases her and what is required to keep that lifestyle going.

She has seen a lot of horrible things in her life and has had an admittedly abusive childhood at the temperament of her step-father, which drove her to run away at 15 and survive on the streets. She learned how to steal, where to sleep, how to con, who to make friends with and who to avoid in her years as a delinquent.

Kenzi has been a professional thief and grifter since she was a young girl living on the streets and as such her abilities in pick-pocketing and racketeering are pretty impressive. She is continuously operating some kind of scheme to make money. Her sleight of hand has also proven useful when needing to lift things for her benefit - and when she needs to make a little cash.

Kenzi does whatever she can to blend in and make friends - while she doesn’t have many relationships that aren't superficial in nature, the ones she has that mean something are lifelong friendships and loves. She will do a lot to help those she cares about; going as far as hurting them to help them in the end. In the original canon her human boyfriend, Nate, was at risk of being exposed to the world of the Fae in a less-than-safe-way and Kenzi, instead of allowing him to be hurt, broke up with him and sends him away from her for his benefit despite the effect it has on her.

She isn’t completely defenseless though, armed with a sharp tongue and a quick brain, her skill with words has gotten her out of more than a few jams with Fae. Kenzi is at a near-constant level of 100% sarcasm and uses it and her appearance as a means of defending herself in both the human and The Underground world. She also manipulates people into doing what she wants more often than not, finding it easier to go right for the jugular instead of attempting to appease to their better judgement. She will play the card of a helpless girl if it means getting her out of trouble but usually Kenzi appears to be stand-offish and uninterested in what people have to say to her, believing that everyone is trying to sell you something.

Powers & Possessions:
Kenzi is pretty average in her coven. She's ambitious, but only recently beginning her journey up the ranks - and she's not a fan of hard work either. It'll combine to make a witch with a great fan of shortcuts and cheap ingredients. She is skilled with charms, location spells, magical objects, and potions from low to mid level. Anything high level is above her abilities.

She owns a katana that is purely ordinary.

World building
Locations:

Aw, Shucks
Located in the Hounslow Borough, bordering the Thames is a snail shucking and escargot packaging company. It's a small business, only big enough to occupy one building on a city block - but Kenzi has a cousin that works there and apparently the owners thought they could open a restaurant on the ground floor and started working on a basement kitchen....which was supremely illegal and was shut down before construction could finish. As it is, there is just a nice big basement underneath the factory now. One which Kenzi calls her workshop or kitchen for spells depending on the day. It has three exits, one of which leads into the Tube tunnels underneath them.

Items:

Twig of Zamora
high leveldark spellbooks
The Twig of Zamora is an object in Lost Girl canon that was given to the Fae Clan of Zamora. It is described in a poem as: "To Clan Zamora, a gift bestowed. Immune to evil deed, to blow. For he who carries sacred twig, immortality shall cling."

As long as a person has the Twig on their person, they cannot be harmed physically. The only catch is, that the heir of the Zamora Clan must be living for it to work.

Staff of Righteousness
high levelarcane spellbooks

A Fae artifact in Lost Girl canon that, according to legend,: "Shall force the one who touches the Staff of Righteousness to take up the noble cause and accept the sacred mantle of Ruler of Forest Nymphs and Wood Sprites, and fight for truth and justice throughout the land to the end of their natural days."

The staff itself appears as a common walking stick until it is wielded in combat after which the staff extends into a larger quarter staff. While in use the weapon grants the bearer a significant increase in their natural strength, as well as empowering them with masterful close combat skills that the individual might not ordinarily have.

The Staff of Righteousness, however, is not without its flaws; namely, once an individual picks up the staff that person is incapable of letting go of the artifact, as it adheres to the bearer's hand permanently. Though luckily, one need only turn down the protection mantle of the forest Nymphs and Sprites and declare the words "I decline", after which the Staff of Righteousness is released automatically.

Magic:

Turnstile Charm (single use)
low levelbasic/arcane/dark spellbookshandmade by kenzi?

So you don't want to keep buying passes for the Tube, but you need to take it to work or school? Well, have a charm to trick the turnstile into thinking you paid. Unfortunately it is one use and we haven't figured out how to make it so multiple charms don't go off at the same time when you're just trying to use one, but you don't need to know about that! Here, buy twenty!

Hair Straightening Charm
low levelbasic spellbooks

Fairly simple charm that allows for perfectly straight and smooth hair, no matter what the humidity is. Charm can be made with any material, but Elm wood is the best due to it's stabilizing qualities in spell-work.

Ley Line Locator Spell
mid levelarcane spellbooks

This spell is a variant on the sundry location spell. It requires a version of a scrying mirror, in that the witch must tap into a mental "third eye" to see the ley lines instead of the real world using specific ingredients. This can assist a witch in finding highly magical locations and places that will make the strength of their spells more powerful. It is useful in aiding a witch when summoning a Fae, but it can also backfire on them and allow the Fae to escape the pentacle if they can distract the witch from focusing.
